Associative Neural Networks
I understand theory as a pattern of associations that match, and therefore model patterns in the world; rendering the world predictable because the network encoding it is arranged like a language, with a nested structure as in syntax and grammar. It presents as a conscious rational model of the world, part of episodic memory.
Intersecting this network is another where, like a net, every point is connected to every other. Patterns in this network are encoded through repetition of stimuli, because connections between the points become stronger the more they are stimulated and return to a base level if they are not. Any change in this network has reverberations throughout the whole, until it finds a new equalibrium.
Information flows as chemical/mechanical change in the sense organs then eventually into this network. Attention, where the sense organs are pointed, is automatically attracted by novel events in the environment, presenting as a subconscious experience

Massively Parallel Artificial Intelligence
Edited by Hiroaki Kitano and James A. Hendler
"The increased sophistication and availability of massively parallel supercomputers has had two major impacts on research in artificial intelligence, both of which are addressed in this collection of exciting new AI theories and experiments. Massively parallel computers have been used to push forward research in traditional AI topics such as vision, search, and speech. More important, these machines allow AI to expand in exciting new ways by taking advantage of research in neuroscience and developing new models and paradigms, among them associate memory, neural networks, genetic algorithms, artificial life, society-of-mind models, and subsumption...
Meeting Eliza [Mint, New Delhi] — Businessweek
