Cheap Vacation in Austria - Is It Possible?
Travelling to Austria Travelling to Vienna

I will be honest to you and tell you that Austria is not a cheap country. Of course, it’s not as expensive as the Nordic countries like Norway or Denmark, but pretty expensive. A loaf of bread can cost around 2 Eur if you buy it from the shop at the corner of your hotel street like we did when we were staying at Tourotel Mariahilf Hotel on Mariahilfer Strasse. Supermarkets like Billa and Spar are OK, but compared to prices in Eastern Europe where people earn each month an average of 400 Eur, in Austria prices are more than 5 times higher for some products.

Having cheap food:

Having cheap accommodation around expensive cities in Austria

The first time we went to Austria it was for Christmas in Vienna. Most supermarkets were closed, we had to travel by airplane so taking supplies with us was out of the question so we ended up eating breakfast at the hotel (which was included in the accommodation price) and then kebab and shawarma since these were the cheapest foods available. We bought bread for 2 Eur, yoghurt for 1.5 Eur and beer for about 4 Eur/can. We were trying to save our money for museums and souvenirs so we had to spend as little as we could on stuff that we could buy at home too. After three days we were sick of junk food, so we decided to go prepared the next time we were in Austria.

The amount of poor and self-interested advice that is being issued by brokerages and their analysts. To this day, the majority of stockbrokers are compensated on the number of trades their customers make, not on the returns they generate for them or on the quality of the advice they provide. We believe that the price targets and analyst ratings are made with several masters in mind, none of whom are the individual investor. In a similar fashion, sell-side stock analysts are generally compensated based upon the overall profitability of their firms, not the quality or accuracy of their analysis. In the end, analysts have minimal structural incentive to be accurate in their predictions; rather their built-in incentive is to be as favorable to their corporate clients as possible. It is a...

Investment gurus make their money selling market predictions, not following them. Their overall performance has been historically and consistently dismal. Why people pay for market predictions is a one of Wall Street's biggest mysteries.
